GQ Magazine Recommends Junk Male (Again)!

It’s lovely to see things hotting up in time for Summer! Obviously, the weather is changeable, overcast, inclement and unpredictable... but it’s press coverage for Junk Male Clothing that we’re really alluding to here. Having been mentioned in the July edition of GQ Magazine (No.1 Choice in “12 Steps To A Sizzling Summer”, they then snuck Junk Male into the August edition of GQ too. Granted, it’s only a small piece under the “Best Dressed Summer Style” Section, but even so, it’s still rather sweet of them, especially as we’re such a new company and GQ’s recommendations clearly carry some kudos worldwide.

Last month, GQ focussed on our ever popular Baron Samedi design, which we are currently preparing for a re-print – in a completely new colour, with new discharge inks. We hadn’t originally intended to re-print these at all, but the Extra Large Baron Samedi T-Shirts just sold so quickly, and we clearly upset a few of you who missed out. So, watch this space, The Baron will be back, in more sizes, on Junk Male very soon.

So, GQ then surprised us this month, by swerving away from our more popular TV/Cult and Celebrity Designs, and went for the rather random (but nonetheless handsome) ‘Modern Man’ T-Shirt. We really like this piece, so were glad that they picked up on it too. The powerful whole-of-body ‘Victorian Etching’ was actually inspired after reading Dave Bolings’ fascinating semi-fictional account of the bombing of Guernica on April 26th, 1937.

Such was the spirit and determination of the beleaguered Basque community, they actually dug their families out of the rubble – using their bare hands. In the process, they mutilated themselves horrifically, so much so, that the surgeons carrying out restorative procedures, could not believe that these parents had been digging until their flesh was gone, and the bones in their hands were exposed.

Such passion is overwhelming, and we chose to make our own humble tribute to that community, by encouraging you to ‘Let Your Heart Rule Your Head’.

In a final note, we’ve also just finished an interview with Insight Magazine, which should be appearing over the coming months. They seemed particularly taken with our 1970’s Punk & Bondage clothing interpretation on Bettie Page – the 1950’s Dominatrix and Fetish Pin-Up girl. Doubtless we’ll also be boasting about that magazine article on these pages very soon...
