John Frankenheimer’s 1966 movie ‘Grand Prix’ is undoubtedly the finest and most authentic motor racing film ever made. From the classic opening Saul Bass titles, and inventive split-screen method of conveying the story, the tension builds beautifully throughout the entire film. Frankenheimer’s passion for the subject matter is evident, and the way he filmed the race scenes was particularly impressive (splicing actual race-footage together with scenes that were filmed at each Grand Prix – sometimes with camera cars actually entered into the races (Monaco - for example - in the opening race)!

This is one of the original and limited-edition 10 x 8 inch photos, or ‘lobby cards’, that MGM used in movie theatres. They’re particularly rare, as they were only ever used for promotional purposes, and should have been sent back to MGM after the film had left the cinema.

As such, very few of these lovely promotional items still exist, and rarely come up for sale.

This original and rare 10x8 lobby card shows the legendary banking at Monza, which is sadly no longer used (as it was deemed far too dangerous by modern safety standards). The epic banking still exists at Monza, but unfortunately, is falling into disrepair after years of neglect.
